I do not recommend sleeping pills at all and you should always contact your doctor before you even consider using any type of sleeping pill. Some of them have very hazardous side effects and they can cause dangerous dependencies. Be advised that even though they say non habit forming, the risk of not being able to fall asleep without them is very high.
If I had to recommend any type of sleep aid I would say that melatonin is the safest option. Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone that is linked to the circadian rhythm of your body. Melatonin has less interaction with other drugs and although it has some side effects they are very mild. Before taking anything, you must consult your doctor for the proper melatonin dosage and use. If you want more information I recommend checking out this article on Melatonin and Sleep by the sleep foundation where all of the details are outlined.
